July 2022

Hot and busy

As temperatures reached new records in Britain, The Sharks were busy reaching new audiences. and getting more people active. Creating new partnerships and building on existing ones.

Competition Round up

Only two events this month, but great ones. We had our slalom coach, Rick Moore, medaling in C2 at Ironbridge.

Shepperton saw three new paddlers, and a promotion, well done to Hudayfa Hadjali on both his debut and promotion, also debuting were: Jaafar El Haddad, andUbayda Hadjali, Jasmin Uhlhorn, came third in her first Division 3 event and the ever-young Richard Davis was 5th in Division 3.

Partnerships

We started working with the Jason Roberts Foundation, to get more youngsters involved in canoeing at Harlesden, Jason Roberts was a Premier League footballer from NW10, who is working to help families from the area get active and enjoy sport. This is in its very early development and we will bring you more news soon.

Our partnership with Canal and River Trust is baring fruit and expanding. We have been doing regular sessions with them at Harlesden, which has recruited a number of paddlers to our club sessions and in August we will start working with them on a project with the Young Brent Foundation, with whom we are already partnered.

Projects

The Greenford Quay project is growing very quickly and from August we will be hosting twice weekly racing sessions for those who have been learning to kayak with us. We are also talking with Ealing Councillors how we can build on this success to deliver even more opportunities. Watch this space.

Progress is being made in on getting more facilities at Harlesden Canalside, where we are working closely with OPDC, we are also working with KSP London, who are supporting our projects and investing in what we do.

We also have ambitious plans to build at Southall, after many false starts with other projects, we are now talking with Three Bridges School about building a permanent home there.

Osterley Park

Was temporarily closed to us for most of July, but we are back and running a slightly modified programme.

Harefield

Is going from strength to strength and we are looking a further investment in the site, to improve the facilities, the results we are getting in slalom , show what a good job we are doing.
