Shepperton Slalom July 2026

Ten Shark paddlers enjoyed two days of competition and winning 6 gold medals. Great performances, with so much more to come, and you could be part of it, why join us and let the fun begin?

Shepperton Slalom, is a local event for The Sharks and it was good to see some new comers paddling there, having fun and gaining experience. Fun is fundamental to success, you need to enjoy what you do at whatever level you participate and it was great to see paddlers of all ages enjoying another fantastic weekend hosted by Shepperton Slalom Canoe Club.

This was a Division 3 and Division 4 (entry level event), and it is local to Shark bases, so an ideal place to start your slalom paddling career.

Saturday 4th July

Division 4 K1 Women

The first of the gold medals went to Anaya Dhillon, she was also first J14. Anaya, first started paddling with The Sharks, whilst a pupil at Three Bridges Primary School in Southall, as part of her PE lessons. now at High School she is a regular paddler in our Slalom, Marathon, and Wild Water Racing teams.

Division 4 K1 Men

Another event and another Gold, this time it was claimed by Mohammed Bouhassane, and also first J14. Mohammed’s journey into competitive canoeing came via our after-school club at Harlesden Primary School.

In fifth place was Ezikiel Browe, first J12, this was Ezikiel’s first ever competitive event, he started kayaking last year, after seeing Shark paddlers on the canal near his home in Southall. A great start for your first event Ezikiel.

Women’s K1 Division 3

Moving up a division, Susan Templeton took silver, she was also first M65, showing that sport really is for all ages! She got two clear rounds.

Veterans Men’s Canoe Singles

Rick Moore, our slalom coach, was our third gold of the day, with two clear rounds.

Officials’ Event

Grant Judging at Shepperton

A race held at all slaloms for those people who officiate, and help the event run. On Saturday Ivijah Campbell-Bryan raced, he came 4th and second J14, with two clear runs. Many thanks to Ivijah for providing water safety during the event. Safety is a key thing in all sports and at entry level races, there are more experienced paddlers on the water to assist newcomers if required. Ivijah is a division 2 paddler.

Sunday 5th July

Ladies’ Division 3 K1

Susan Templeton was racing again and came 4th this time (still wth two clear runs), she collected 200 points over the two days and now sits sixth in National Division 3 with 534 points.

Ladies Division 4 K1

Anaya Dhillon also raced both days, this time taking silver.

Men’s Division 4 K1

Mohammed was back in first place, taking his 3rd gold medal in three events, having last week won the Wey Marathon.

In third place was Harley Rai, who was also the first J10, Harley is another paddler that has come via our regular core time PE lessons at Three Bridges Primary School.

Ezikiel Maqbool came in 5th place, his first race this year, he was also first J12. Ezikiel attends the after-school club we run with St. Mary’s Primary School in Southall.

Veteran Men’s Canoe Singles

A second gold for Rick Moore in two days in Mens Canoe Singles, and another clear run, he collected 547 points from the two days and is now ranked 8th in National Mens Veterans C1.

Mixed Doubles C2

Rick Moore was back in action with Mel Moore I theh mixed Canoe Doubles and they took first place.

Men’s Canoe Doubles

Ivijah Campbell-Bryan raced with Gregory Grant from Salisbury Canoe Club and were first J16s.

Officials’ Event

Ivijah Campbell-Bryan came second this time, with a clear run and M65 Neal Underwood came 4th, also with a clear run.

Shepperton Slalom Canoe Club for hosting this event, and many others during the year. They always put on an excellent event with a very friendly atmosphere, ideal for new paddlers starting off in the sport.

The officials, and volunteers who help run the event and feed the people there; Shepperton do run a very good catering operation.

To the paddlers, coaches, parents and helpers who are essential to keeping our sport going.
