Harefield moves to Shepperton

Slalom Sharks on form

The Sharks hosted their second national ranking slalom at Shepperton, due to construction work at Harefield making our home site unavailable. The events were Division 3 and 4 (entry level events on both Saturday and Sunday.

The event was a great success and attracted paddlers from a wide number of clubs from all over the South of Britain, including paddlers from Wales. A big thank-you to everybody who helped put this event on. Thanks also to Shepperton Slalom Canoe Club for loaning us their site at short notice.

Shark paddlers were in fine form and many paddling slalom for the first time showed great promise: In Saturday’s competition Khaleel Zianddin came fourth in division 4 in the men’s K1 but on Sunday he improved to take 2nd place and promotion to national division 3. Adam Abdi Allah, Joel Gunnery and Johan Kukkohori were also paddling for the first time. with under 8; Elias Kukkohori making his first appearance on the Sunday.

In the Men’s division 3; Adam Stewart took 2nd place on Saturday and 6th on Sunday, whilst Aaron Nolan moved up from 5th on Saturday to second on Sunday and is now a favourite for promotion to division 2. James Read was 0th on Saturday and 8th on Sunday.

In the Ladies’ Division 3; Lianna Nolan took 4th spot on Saturday, but moved up to 3rd in Sunday’s event. Chelsea Ludlow was 5th. Amelia Combes paddled Canoe (C1)  in division 3 and won on both days. Whilst Shivani Makwana won the Ladies’ division 4 K1 event.

Canoe doubles is an event that The Sharks often do well in and on Saturday Rod Grundy and Jasmine Abdi Allah took first place with Joel Gunnery and Johan Kukkohori taking silver. On Sunday Khaleel Zianddin and Johan Kukkohori were second whilst Amelia Combes and Shivani Makwana came in third.
