The fantastic Langham Farm Autumn Slalom takes place on the weekend of the 19th and 20the September. It is a ranking Division 3 and Division 4 event and its is a brilliant weekend hosted by Frome Canoe Club. You can enter by clicking here.
What, where, and when?
The What …
Langham Farm slalom is one of the best canoeing weekends away, it has a slightly different format to other events, enabling more time on the water and more fun. Just check out our trip from earlier this year.
A combination of practice, team events, Wild Water Racing and a ranking slalom event, camping on an island that is secure safe and exclusive to the paddlers at the event. It is ideal for all standards, those just starting out can learn new skills in a fun safe environment, whilst these will more experience can hone their skills and get a lot of practice in.
Saturday 19th September
All day practice on a nice flowing stream, which is ideal for beginners and those new to slalom. There will be organised practice for both Slalom and Wild Water Racing.
In the afternoon there will be a slalom team event, where three people must go down the course within 15 seconds of each other, a brilliant way to make you think about what you are doing and learn about paddling together.
Following the team event, there will be a ranking Regional Wild Water Race, you can race in slalom boats, plastic boats or River Racers, you can try them all. As many runs as you want, Kayaks, Canoes and Canoe Doubles.
In the evening we can have some time together on the campsite, eat, share stories and have some fun.
Sunday 20th September
The Ranking slalom, Division 4 is for people new to the sport, an entry level event, you get two runs and your best run counts. Division 3 is for those with slightly more experience and are ranked in Division 3. We have a number of Division 3 paddlers, and if you don’t know what division you are in, then you start in Division 4.
The Where …
Langham Farm is in Somerset, near the boarder with Wiltshire, about 150 miles from Southmere and about 100 miles from Harefield. It is a fairly easy journey. Please use the reference we have sent here on your SatNav, because using Post Codes takes you to the wrong place. The final approach down to Langham Farm is dow a track, it is along a working farm.
On site, there is facilities for camping, pleas park cars where directed, and do not drive onto the Island. There are proper flush toilets, water supply and probably the best catering operation at any slalom event, the have a wide selection of food, including vegan options.
