Barrow March 2023

Final Barrow Race of the Series

Liah Boyle and Neal Underwood, were there on a very strange day, the sun was out, there was snow in the fields and the river was in flood!

The normal race course was inaccessible, but the organisers, Soar Valley Canoe Club were ready with plan C, they used plan B in January. The race would start at the normal finish line and go down stream to Pilings Lock and turn and race back to the start line. Leaving the hardest part to last!

Liah, took 17 minutes 8.22 seconds to complete the course of about 2.5k, this is the first time that 14-year-old Liah had paddled up a river in flood, so was a very challenging achievement. She came 7th over all and first Under-16, she currently is ranked top under-16 in the Country and fourth best over all!

Neal was 9th overall in the Men’s event taking 14:47.68 to complete the course, he was top V60, currently the top V60 in Britain and ranked 9th over all.

Thank you to Soar Valley Canoe Club for organising the series, we will be back in October for the next series, hopefully with a bigger and even better team, if you would like to be part of that team, then contact us on 07951 770241, or email: canoeing@thesharks.org.uk.
