Well Done Rick

Still Got What it Takes

Our Slalom Coach Rick Moore was in action at the Re-Union Slalom at the Lee Valley at the Weekend, part of the celebration events surrounding the World Cup event that was taking place.

Rick was paddling in the 1970s Electra made by Krakatoa Canoes and he came 6th from an impressive field, containing ex-World Champion, Richard Fox.

Paddlers got a handicap advantage for the older the boat they used, Rick’s earns him a 21.5% time advantage but Richard Fox paddled a KW7 and got a 33.25% advantage. For those of you who have no idea what a KW7 looks like, it makes our banana boats look small. Take a look at the video.

The event was also run under old rules, green and red poles on each gate, reverse gates etc. Rick got a best time of 95.3 (modified to 74.8) and a clean run, which is significant because penalties were higher, 5 seconds per pole.

Great event and enjoyed by all these who took part.

For those interested in the great sport, don’t forget we are at Harefield every Monday and Wednesday, Rick will be coaching. For more information call 07951 770241, or email canoeing@thesharks.org.uk.
