Ealing paddlers strike out at Scottish Open Wild Water Championships

EALING based paddlers struck out at the Scottish Open Wild Water Racing Championships at the weekend — and discovered just how tough wild water racing is.

The Sharks took on the difficult River Tay at Grandtully, in North Perthshire, which is also the site for the 2016 British Team selection event in April Sharks’ top paddler Grant Underwood (pictured) was seventh, with Rod Grundy, 22nd and James Reed just two seconds back in the first day’s racing.

In Sunday’s classic 3.5K, Underwood slipped to ninth place, but saw Grundy pick up a few places for 19th with Reed 23rd for the second time in a row.

Club coach Neal Underwood said: “The River Tay offers a wild water experience similar to rivers on continental Europe, so it is important for the club to learn about the river and pick up valuable experience.”
