Inter-Generation Challenge

Slalom C2 Event

At the Sharks at Shepperton Slalom the Sharks ran a C2 challenge for paddlers of different generation, we openly admit the idea came from Sheffield Canoe Club’s Oughtibridge Slalom and it is great fun,

The rules are simple, the two paddlers must come from different generations; Parents and children, Aunts/Uncles and Nephews and Nieces, but can be any combination of people if they are clearly from different generations, so carers can get in with those they care for. The age group category they are put in depends on the age of the paddler in the front

Although three of our four entries did field the sam paddler, he was with different generations. We will start with the youngest first:

Under-8s

Grant Underwood (Senior) and Orla Kirk (J8), both from The Sharks

Under-10s

This time it was Conor Kirk (J10), who was paddling with Grant Underwood

J16

Another Club entering into the fun was Salisbury Canoe Club with Ellie Grant (Senior) racing with Gregory Grant (J16).

V65

Yes, the generations go both ways and this time it was Grant Underwood, paddling with V65 Neal Underwood.

Each pairing received prizes, to the youngsters an information book on Sharks and to the slightly older paddlers, a bottle of London Pride.

Many thanks to everybody involved to the C2 crews that race, to the officials, to Shepperton Slalom Canoe Club, for the loan of their fantastic facilities, and to Nauticalia for the use of their car park

The Sharks are a family orientated club and are always looking at ways to make the sport more inclusive, more fun and family orientated and we will be running similar events at our future Slaloms, all you need to do is enter the event as normal and let us know in Control, so we know you are eligible and want to be included.
