Ivijah back to Winning Ways

A great two day event hosted by our friends at Shepperton Slalom Canoe Club saw a number of Sharks taking part but congratulations go to Ivijah Campbell-Bryan for winning Saturday’s Division 3 event.

Division 3 Men’s K1

Let’s start with that second run of Ivijah’s which lifted him from mid table after the first runs; a bit of focus saw him shave 3 seconds off of his time and eight seconds worth of penalties, so faster and cleaner. leaving him three seconds in front of his nearest rival and gives him the maximum 250 points.

A couple more performances like that and Division 2 will beckon. At present Ivijah is ranked 8th in Division 3 with 949 points.

Alistair Gifford-Moore also raced on Saturday and took 6th place with a clear second run, he earns 71 points and is now ranked 66th in National Division 3 with 81 points.

Division 3 K1 Women’

Susan Templeton raced both days and took 3rd place on Saturday and second on Sunday, she adds 284 points to her season total and is now ranked 14th in Division 3 with 599 points.

Division 4 K! Women

Amina Adewusi made her debut in Slalom canoeing for The Sharks and raced on both days of the Women’s Division 4 event, taking 4th on Saturday and 5th on Sunday.

On Sunday Emilia Flottweg also debuted and came 4th and first J14. Both Amina and Emilia have come from our Thamesmead section.

Men’s Division 4 K1

On Saturday Ezekiel Maqbool raced in Division 4 and came second over all and 2nd J14, an impressive performance which could soon see him in Division 3.

Zakaria Ahmed made his debut on Saturday, coming 6th over all and 2nd J8 and on Sunday he was fifth and 1st J8.

In Sunday’s race another debutant, Jacob Flottweg, came 4th and first J18. Both of these paddlers were from The Sharks at Thamesmead.

Canoe Doubles

The Sharks dominated the Doubles events with Grant Underwood and Neal Underwood taking first place on both days, adding 268 points to their season total, placing them 9th in UK rankings. See the run.

On Saturday a partnership of Khaleel Ziauddin and Alistair Gifford-Moore came second and a J14 partnership of Ivijah Campbell-Bryan and Ezekiel Maqbool came third.

Officials Event

Some interesting runs in the Officials event (an event for those officiating at the event). Semir Ahmed came 7th on Saturday and third on Sunday, whilst Richard Moore took 4th on Sunday.

And now for something completely different.

Many thanks to Shepperton Slalom Canoe Cub for hosting the event, which as always was a great weekend; and to our coaches and supporters who make these events possible.
