Be Part of London’s Top Wild Water Racing Team

Yes, The Sharks are the top Wild Water Racing (WWR) club in London and are one of the top clubs in Britain. Our objective is to become the top club in Britain and to do that we need more WWR paddlers.

Wild Water Racing is the ultimate challenge; pitting your wits against the elements and other paddlers. The race format is a time trial down a designated section of river, but you have to choose your  passage down the rapids, fining the fastest route. Entry level races start on streams and as your skills an confidence improves, you take on more challenging rivers and more challenging competitors.

As a club we have the facilities for people to learn Wild Water Racing, we can provide all the equipment you need. We practice white water and moving water skills at Harefield and we travel extensively throughout Britain to gain experience on rivers and to enter events. Traditionally the Club as organised many local entry level events; we have also travelled to Europe to race and the Club currently has a member of the British Under-23 Wild Water Racing Team, Grant Underwood, as a member. Grant learnt to paddle with The Sharks.

You do not need to have any experience to take up this sport, just contact Neal on 07951 770241 or email canoeing@thesharks.org.uk. We will teach you to paddle, race and provide all the kit you need.

The lead coach for The Sharks Wild Water Racing Team is Neal Underwood; the WWR paddlers train at Sac with Sprint and Marathon paddlers during the Winter months, during the Summer we still train together, but have some specific WWR sessions as well.

Winter training times are:

Wednesday evening at 5pm at SAC; these are indoor sessions and we use paddling machines

Saturday afternoon at SAC at 3pm; these are water based sessions; unless the weather is extremely bad in which case they will be indoors.

SAC (Southall Activity Centre) is located on Longboat Row, Cranleigh Gardens, Southall, UB1 2BE

 

Wild Water Racing with the Sharks

The Sharks have a very strong Wild Water Racing section and are currently ranked as the top club in London for WWR and one of the best in Britain. In 2012/13, we were runners up in the National Wavehopper Challenge. For more information about WWR visit: www.wildwater.org.uk.

We run several entry level events locally as well as events further afield, in 2013 we organised two regional races in Wales and are part of the organising team for the 2014 British Team selection races. As well as racing in Britain, The Sharks regularly compete abroad. Joining The Sharks will give you the opportunity to learn the skills required to participate in this the most exciting of sports.

We regularly race at events in other countries to broaden our experience and to enjoy the sport and have fun trips away.
