Barrow WWR Results – October 2016

The Sharks are back

The Sharks have made a great return to Wild Water Racing, having been missing from races for most of last season, a small team went to the Barrow-on-Soar race to kick-start our re-emergence in the discipline.

The Barrow, race is a fantastic race suitable for paddlers new to racing, it is 3k long (15 – 20 minutes) on a twisty stream, with no rocks. It also provides a good work out and race for the more experienced paddler, so suitable for the whole club. Let’s have more Sharks there in future!

The Sharks also welcomed a new member to the team; Swiss international Wild Water Racer, Alistair Smortit who came third overall and first under-23 in a time of 15:40.

Barrow

Grant Underwood, returning for his first Wild Water Race since April came ninth and second under-23 with a time of 16:44.

Both Alistair and Grant are training at Loughborough University during term time

James Reed (right) was 4th Veteran over 35 and 20th over all, his time was 19:23. Joel Gunnery entering only his second Wild Water Race ever was third under 16 and 22nd over all with a time of 19:48.
