A glorious and sunny day brought out people to race at Thamesmead in our second Wild Water Race held on the site. This is part of our development programme for Thamesmead and with 34 starts in December, it is clearly going very well.

Eleven new paddlers introduced to racing today, adding to the 21 introduced at Thamesmead 1. This is just the beginning, the Legacy continues …
Men’s K1

First place went to Adam Stewart of The Sharks, making his first appearance at a race for a very long time, welcome back Adam, his winning time was 2:00.0 he collects 2,000 points.
In second place and first J14 was The Sharks’ Ivijah Campbell-Bryan, his time was 2:30.4.earning himself 1,696 points.
Third place was another Shark Paddler, Grant Underwood, who took 2:39.3 to finish the course, collecting 1,607 points.
Meridian Canoe Club‘s Malcolm Blowers was in 4th place, racing a Wavehopper, his time of 2:53.7 also made I’m the first V60.
In 5th Place was Mohammed Bouhassane from The Sharks. He was also first J12 with a time of 3:56.1, earning him 1,439 points.
Dave Edwards, also from Meridian came joint 6th in a time of 2:57.4, he was also first V50. He was racing in a WW Racing boat for the first time. He tied with Thamesmead coach Giles Brunning was next, he raced a Wavehopper and his time was 2:57.4. Giles was first V55. Earning 4,27 points.
Second V55 and 8th overall was Steve Tuck from Meridian, paddling a slalom boat. His time was 3:15.7
Ninth place and first V45 was taken by Andrew Kienas of The Sharks racing a Wavehopper in a time of 3:29.4. 1,106 points won.

Another Meridian paddler, Brett Serafin-Walker paddling a plastic GP boat in a time of 3:44.7.
New to River Racing was The Sharks’s Aiden Gorgi, who paddled a WW Racing boat for the first time ever in a time 3:46.4. Collecting 936 points.
Another Shark, Christos Gainnopoulos was 12th, racing in a GP boat he clocked a time of 4:18.3 and was first V45. 617 points gained
First J8 and youngest paddler of the day was Zak Ahmed who completed the course in a time of 4:20.1 racing in a slalom boat, giving him 599 points.

Ladies’ K1

Meridian‘s Katherine Tuck took first place racing in a slalom boat, her time was 3:33.3. She was also first J18
Nicky Tuck, also from Meridian was second in a time of 3:36.3, she was racing in a slalom boat, she was also first V50.
First J12 and 3rd overall was Shark paddler, Abbey MacDonald, her time in her slalom boat was 3:46.1, collecting 1,928 points.

Michelle Earl came 4th and first V40 in a time of 4:08.3, paddling a GP boat, earning 1,803 points.
Rosalind Edwards from Meridian fifth place in a River Race with a time of 4:13.8. She was also first J12.
Next finisher was Shirley Ngo from The Sharks, her time of 6:25.0 in a GP boat. giving her 1,043 points.
Men’s C1

The event was won by Grant Underwood, from The Sharks, with a time of 3:24.8. He collects 2,000 points to add to his season’s tally
Second was Shark, Neal Underwood, with time of 4:50.0, paddling in an Open Canoe. He was also first V60. Collecting 1,501 ponies
In third place and second V60 was Malcolm Blowers from Meridian, Aldo racing an Open Canoe. His time was 7:43.0.
Men’s Canoe Doubles

In first place was a Shark crew of Adam Stewart and Grant Underwood, the finished in a time of 2:54.2. Another partnership another 2,000 points.
Second place was a tie in a time of 4:00.0 between two Shark crews, Ivijah Campbell-Bryan and Mohammed Bouhassane, also first J14 with a time, and Giles Brunning and Thomas Billis. Both crews collecting 1,547 points
New Shark paddlers Damien Isbeor and Luca Nguyen took 4:46.1 to complete the course for third place and first J18, worth 1,229 ranking points.
With Griffen Poole-Mears and Leon Poole-Mears (another pair of new Shark paddlers) finishing in a time of 4:49.3. 1,207 points.
Mixed Canoe Doubles

Another Winning Shark pair of Michelle Earl and Grant Underwood, their time was 3:31.5. Worth 2,000 points.

In second Place was a Meridian pair Nicky Tuck and Steve Tuck, with a time of 4:13.0.
The Team Event

The Sharks Hammerheads (Adam Stewart, Ivijah Campbell-Bryan, and Mohammed Bouhassane) versus Meridian‘ Team Tuck (Steve Tuck, Nicky Tuck, and Katherine Tuck) and The Sharks won in a time of 3:12.7, over 3:40.1.
And The Topo Duo K2 Race!

First was Adam Stewart and Aiden Gorgi with a time of 3:00.9
Second crew was Ivijah Campbell-Bryan and Mohammed Bouhassane, the time being 3:23.7
Giles Brunning and Thomas Billis were third with a time of 4:00.1.

A great days racing and a fantastic end to the Wild Water Racing year, many thanks to all involved in hosting the race, to the officials on the Wild Water Racing Committee, who work all year round to ensure we have a sport, to the paddlers for taking part and for parents and coaches who support those paddlers.
