Sunshines on The Sharks

Barrow Race Report November 2025

A glorious sunny day in November and The Sharks were racing at the Legendary Barrow Series again! Six paddlers racing this time, including a new paddler, welcome Peter Jago, and Imran Sulemanji‘s first Wild Water Race.

This entry level race is suitable for anybody who can paddle 3k in any craft, the presence of a lot of floating penny-wort made the course more interesting and a great learning curve for those new to racing. Women’s K1

Alaina Sulemanji was our only woman on this occasion and the Under-ten-year-old was in fine form, completing the 3k course in her personal best time of 27:05.49. She came 10th over all and top Under-10.

Great performance Aliana, the results added 1,291 points to her season total and she is now ranked … in the UK and … Junior 10.

Men’s K1

Our fastest paddler in the Men’s K1 event was Ivijah Campbell;-Bryan, his time was 18:54.79.

He came 23rd overall and was under-14, he gained 1,695 points which ranked him at … in the national ranking lists and … Junior 14.

Next to finish was our oldest paddler of the day, 65-year-old, Neal Underwood, his time was 2016.96.

He came 30th over all and 5th V60, his points for the event were 1,586, he is now ranked … and … Over 60 in the UK.

Returning to the Barrow for a second time was Mohammed Bouhassane, his time of 23:48.16, was a personal best.

He was 40th over all and second Junior 12 at the event, giving him another 1,305 points to his tally this year, which ranks him … and … Under 12.

New to River racing and entering only his second ever race was Imran Sulemangi.

His time of 25:14.54 earns him his first 1,277 points and 41st place.

It ranks him … in the UK.

Making his debut in Canoe Racing was Peter Jago, he raced the course in a General Purpose boat and his time was 33:20.32.

He came 48th over all and collected his first 546 points, he is now ranked … in the National ranking lists.

A big thank you to Grant Underwood, who forwent racing to escort younger paddlers down the course, we are always very conscious of safety and helping to build confidence in racing and always have a top paddler on had to provide this service.

As always we would like to thank the host; Soar Valley Canoe Club, Club coaches and volunteers as well as parents and of course all of our combative paddlers, whom make The Sharks the Club we are.

After the event we go and get something to eat, enjoy some social time and get to know each other in a social setting, it makes for the perfect day. On this occasion in Sonny’s Street Food in Loughborough, supporting local businesses.

Net Race is the Harefield Wild Water Race, the Fury at the Weir, this is a short 500 metre sprint format race, so suitable for anybody in any boat tag can paddle 500m!
