Getting to know your partners
As you will know The Sharks are working very closely with Peabody, to develop something very special in Thamesmead and as part of that we hosted a day for the senior team at Peabody, including the Trusts CEO.
The day was an opportunity for the Peabody team to experience what we are doing and for us to explain our vision for the future and how we will develop Southmere Lake into one of London’s premier water sports locations.
The day started with some sessions in the open canoes, enabling Peabody staff to see how they have improved the water feature with their planting and other environmental work. (we are looking for some old photographs so we can do a before and after feature, if you have any please send them to thamesmead@thesharks.org.uk.
What better way to chat with people than a gentle paddle round the lake, a very special mention to Giles Brunning, our lead instructor at Thamesmead, of providing the necessary instructions and for leading the group with his incredible knowledge not only of canoeing/kayaking, but of Thamesmead as well.
The weather was not too kind to us on the day, so well done for everyone sticking to the plan.
Lunch at Thamesmead Social, was a great opportunity for us to chat about our plans, which we will be publishing soon. We previously had a meeting with senior staff at Paddle UK (the Sports governing body), and everybody is agreed on what we can develop and how. So we (Thamesmead residents, The Sharks, Peabody, Paddle UK, and paddlesport) are looking at a very bright future. In the afternoon we took to kayaks to complete the experience. Thank you to the Peabody team for giving us the chance to get together and chat whilst enjoying the facilities and taking part in activity.
