The Sharks usually have a good presence at these events which are great fun and make for a nice day out. See last month’s report. These races are an ideal entry level event, so why not try something different? For more information call/text 07951 770241, or email: canoeing@thesharks.org.uk.

The race is 3k long and is on a gentle flowing stream to make the paddle easier, there are no rocks or rapids, so it is suitable for anybody who can paddle 3k. We meet at the Moorings, Barrow-on-Soar, LE12 8PN, at 10am, for a briefing at 10:30, the race starts at 11am. After the briefing we paddle along the canal to the start, it is about 1k and then portage (transfer) to the River. The race goes round a loop and comes back to the Moorings. The race format is a time trial with paddlers setting off every minute. So unless you are first or last you are chasing and being chased.

Barrow-on-Soar is about 120 miles from London and takes about two-and-a-half hours to drive. After the race most of us usually go for a meal in a local establishment and make a day of the trip. Come and join us and have a great day out.
