Shepperton Wild Water Race - Saturday 29th January 2011

The fist Shark Wild Water race of 2011 took place on the Thames at Shepperton, hosted by Shepperton Slalom Canoe Club, which also provide an excellent cafe, changing facilities and a warm building, on what was a very cold day.

The race was the third in the Winter serries and despite the weather attracted 21 starts, including Canadian boats. Herts Young Mariners were the winners of the event club prize and four new clubs, Itchen Valley, Tandridge, Shepperton and Wokingham, took part in the event and nine new paddlers, most of whom were new to WWR.

Paddlers ranged from 72-year-old Riachard Davies and 11-year-old Kieran Nolson, proving that canoeing really is a sport for all!

Many thanks to Neil Stamps, national coach and Wolrd gold medal winner in WWR for presenting the Trophies, To Shepperton Slalom Canoe Club  and to Claire and Natalie from HYM for the finish.

The next race in the series takes place on the River Lea on Saturday February 26th.
