Oughtibridge Slalom - Sat 17th & Sun 18th April 2010
The Division 3/4 slalom at Oughtibridge (pronounced or-tee-bridge) just north of Sheffield is run twice a year in April and September. It is organised by Sheffield Canoe Club and is the perfect event for introducing newcomers, although this year the water was very low and falling.
There is camping and parking available adjacent to course, with shower and toilet facilities in the football pavilion on site. Catering is provided by a commercial burger van and is dearer than when canoe clubs run the catering themselves and not as imaginative. There was no vegetarian options available.
As you would expect it is a friendly event with good trophies and on this occasion excellent weather!
The only Shark taking part was Grant Underwood, who secured promotion to Division 2 after taking f4th place in the Men's K1 on Saturday and 5th in the Sunday event, which was pretty good considering he has swum 5,000m for charity on the Friday evening!
